ISO 9001:2015 Surveillance Audit: SONARA Confirms the Strength of Its Quality Management System

In the face of risks associated with maritime operations, preparedness remains our greatest asset. It was in this spirit that the Maritime Emergency Plan (PUM) No. 0118 was conducted on Friday, July 31, 2026. Organized on the last Friday of each month, this exercise has become an integral part of SONARA’s prevention and emergency preparedness program.
This edition focused on the theme: “Slops Spill into the Sea Through the Wastewater Treatment Unit Outfall.” The scenario simulated a malfunction in Unit 330, placing the response teams in a situation requiring swift, coordinated, and effective action.
The exercise unfolded in three key stages: an initial briefing to present the scenario and objectives, the deployment of personnel and emergency equipment in the field to manage the simulated incident, and a final debriefing to review the actions taken, identify strengths, and highlight areas for improvement.
In addition to SONARA personnel, representatives from FAKOSHIP, COTCO, ADDAX Petroleum, and PERENCO took part in the exercise, underscoring the importance of cooperation among industry stakeholders in addressing maritime safety and environmental protection challenges.
Exercises of this nature go far beyond simple simulations. They help build the right reflexes, strengthen coordination among response teams, and reinforce a shared culture of prevention. When an emergency occurs, every minute counts, and only regular training can ensure an effective response.
At the end of the exercise, participants expressed their overall satisfaction with both the organization of the drill and the quality of the exchanges. This successful edition reflects everyone’s commitment to continuously improving emergency response capabilities.
Each PUM exercise is an opportunity to learn, improve, and contribute to the protection of people, facilities, and the marine environment. Preparation is already underway for PUM No. 0119, driven by the same ambition: to remain ever better prepared to respond to emergency situations.
